A bright piece of fabric with
an oversize floral print can enliven a plain room.
A yawn of a plain wall gets a
jolt of eye-popping style with a simple fabric art piece. These
pieces work best on larger, unadorned walls of a solid color.
Go bold in choosing a floral fabric -- bright colors, big prints
-- that complements the room's décor.
Start your fabric search at local
fabric and furniture stores. Another choice is interior designers'
showrooms; these are often pricier textiles, but you'll get a
higher quality and a broader selection. Wherever you find the
right fabric, choose wisely: Cut lengths of fabric are often
not returnable. If you're not sure, ask for a swatch or sample
to check the colors at home.
A 54-inch-wide fabric is a good
choice for a 48-inch-tall wall decoration. Two yards (72 inches)
of fabric is a good length, but measure the area of the wall
you need to cover, and purchase fabric accordingly. Allow enough
fabric to wrap around the frame, at least two inches on each
side. Also consider the placement of the flowers within the frame;
note how the pattern repeats on the fabric length and buy a little
extra to ensure you'll get the full picture you want to achieve.
