Tulips

An excellent choice for naturalizing in woodland gardens, as a companion for spring bulbs, and in rock gardens, forget-me-not bears beautiful, usually azure blue flowers on plants that range in height from 5 to 12 inches. Pink and white varieties are also available. Flowers appear in spring and sporadically afterwards in summer.

This plant is technically a biennial (blooms in its second year then dies) or short-lived perennial. However, in nearly all conditions it reseeds so freely it produces an ongoing supply year after year.

Notable Varieties

  • 'Blue Ball' is a 6-inch-tall, bright blue variety.
  • 'Carmine King' bears bright red flowers on 8-inch plants.
  • 'Royal Blue Improved' grows 12 inches tall with deep indigo-blue flowers.
  • 'Victoria Mix' produces mounds of white, blue, and pink flowers.

Care
Discard plants as they die back in the summer heat.

Planting
Direct sow seed in spring, thinning to 12 inches. In areas with hot summers, seed can be started indoors 10 - 12 weeks before last frost.
