A butterfly magnet, this warm-season annual grows with amazing speed, sometimes hitting 5 feet in just a few short months. It's usually available in rich orange, but yellow varieties are now available.

Notable Varieties

  • 'Fiesta Del Sol' is a dwarf, growing just 30 inches tall but producing many flowers.
  • Yellow 'Aztec Sun' is especially attractive to butterflies.

Care
Likes average to poor, but well-drained, soil. Moderate to light moisture. Thrives in heat and humidity. Mulch to conserve moisture; avoid fertilizing. Staking often needed.

Planting
Plant established seedlings in spring after all danger of frost has passed.

Pests and Diseases
Snails and slugs can be a problem; bait as needed.
