Many people consider autumn the
most beautiful time of the year. Trees like the Japanese Maple
help explain the reason. The other plants listed here are all
winners in the fall.
Japanese
Maple
This versatile Japanese maple is popular for its fine-textured
leaves and good fall color. The dissectum group has deeply-lobed
leaves. It grows to 15 to 25 feet tall and wide, but smaller
cultivars are available.
Monkshood
Named after its drooping blue flowers that resemble the hood
on a monk's robe, this lovely flower is a favorite for fall gardens.
It grows about 2 to 3 feet tall.
Boltonia
A terrific choice for the fall garden, boltonia grows 3 to 7
feet tall, depending on the cultivar, with a frothy explosion
of white or pink flowers in late summer or early fall.
