More Feature Topics:

Named after its drooping blue flowers that resemble the hood on a monk's robe, this lovely flower is a favorite for fall gardens.

It grows about 2 to 3 feet tall and is a nice complement to the many daisy-like flowers more commonly blooming in fall.

Notable Varieties

'Bicolor' has blue and white flowers.

Care
Water moderately unless plant is in full sun, then water more often. Fertilize with a slow-release fertilizer or by scratching a spadeful or two of compost into the soil around the plants base two or three times during the growing season. This plant dislikes dividing or transplanting. Stake if plant becomes floppy.

Planting
Plant established plants in spring in all zones, or bare-root or container plants in fall in Zones 7 and warmer, working plenty of compost into the soil.

Pests and Diseases
Crown rot and mildew if conditions are too wet or too humid.
