Butterscotch Clusters

3 (6-ounce) packages butterscotch chips
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (3-ounce) can chow mein noodles
1 cup dry roasted peanuts or whole roasted almonds
1 cup flaked coconut (optional)
2 cups miniature marshmallows (optional)
  1. In large saucepan, over low heat, melt chips with sweetened condensed milk. Remove from heat.*
  2. In large mixing bowl, combine noodles, nuts, coconut and marshmallows; stir in the butterscotch mixture, mixing well.
  3. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto wax paper-lined baking sheets; chill 2 hours or until firm. Store, covered, in cool dry place.

Makes about 3 dozen candies.

*Microwave directions: In 2 quart glass measure, combine chips and sweetened condensed milk. Microwave on high for 3 minutes, stirring after 1 1/2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Proceed as above.

Variation: For Chocolate Haystacks, substitute 1 (12-ounce) package semisweet chocolate chips for the 3 (6-ounce) packages of butterscotch chips.
