Can I use red hots candy in
place of cinnamon oil?
Q: If my recipe calls for cinnamon oil can I use red
hots instead? This is a hard candy recipe, how many red hots
should I use? Thank you.
A: I would not recommend using the candy, Red Hots
as a substitute for the cinnamon oil. The two may have the same
general flavor, but they are not the same in content or for use.
Red Hots are a candy made for eating as is and if used, would
add more sugar to the mix, whereas the cinnamon oil is strictly
for flavoring and its flavor is much more intense by proportion
compared to the amount of red hots it would take to get the same
flavor throughout the candy mixture.
