Removing the embedded bread
machine blade.
Q: I have a cheap bread machine, the dough blade
is attached to the inside of the mix bowl, which also means when
the bread is baked, the blade is embedded inside my bread. It's
a real wrestling match to behold. Any suggestions of how to separate
the two? how to extract my loaf without brutalizing that poor
pup of a loaf? Thanks, Corinne
A: As far as I know, the blade remains in the mixing/baking
pan of all bread machines no matter how expensive. However, I
may be wrong and if there is one that has a mixing/kneading blade
that retracts, I would like to know about it the next time I'm
in the market for a bread machine!
Anyway, in answer to your question,
the way I remove the blade from the baked bread is to remove
it while the loaf is still hot by grasping the blade tightly
with a pair of metal tongs and then very carefully pull it out,
trying not to disturb the surrounding bread. No matter what,
you are still going to have a section of the bread that is going
to be imperfect because of the position of blade. It is the trade
we make for the convenience of not having to mix, knead, rise
and bake bread the old fashioned "much-more-work" way.
