Interesting spreads are always a welcome--and carefree-- party appetizer. Prepare a day or two in advance and offer at cool room temperature with crackers, veggies and cocktail rye.

Swiss Cheese Ham and Caraway Spread

1 1/4 cups shredded Swiss cheese
1/3 cup ground ham
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons softened butter
2 tablespoons coarse-grained mustard
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  1. In food processor blend cheese, ground ham, mayonnaise, butter, mustard and caraway seeds. Process, scraping down sides of bowl, until smooth.
  2. Arrange spread in attractive serving bowl; place on tray surrounded by assorted crackers, breads and vegetables. Good vegetable choices: sliced cucumbers, trimmed green onions, baby carrots, celery sticks, red pepper slices, trimmed radishes, jicama slices

Makes about 1 1/4 cups.
