Saucy Oven-Barbecued Steaks

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 pounds round steak, cubed
3/4 cup tomato ketchup
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground pepper
Cooked noodles for accompaniment
  1. Heat oil in a large skillet. Add trimmed, cubed round steak and brown on both sides. Transfer to a baking dish.
  2. Combine ketchup, water, cider vinegar, brown sugar, prepared mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Pour over the beef, cover, and bake at 350*F (175*C) for 30 minutes, or until tender.
  3. Serve steak with noodles.

Makes 4 servings.
