Sourdough Discard Whole Wheat Bread

No recipe image available.A hearty whole wheat yeast bread with the tangy flavor of sourdough. This recipe is written for use with bread machines.

Recipe Ingredients:

For 1 1/2 Pound Loaf:
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup sourdough discard (unfed starter), at room temperature
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
3 cups whole wheat bread flour
2 teaspoons active dry yeast

For 2 Pound Loaf:
1 cup plus 3 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 1/4 cup sourdough discard (unfed starter), at room temperature
2 teaspoons salt
4 teaspoons granulated sugar
4 cups whole wheat bread flour
2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Cooking Directions:

  1. Place ingredients in the bread machine pan in the order suggested by the manufacturer.
  2. Select Whole Wheat bread cycle and start machine.

Makes 1 loaf.
