Traditional White Bread
A good basic recipe for white bread prepared using a bread machine.
Recipe Ingredients:
For 1 1/2 pound loaf:
1 cup water
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 cups bread flour
2 tablespoons dry milk
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
For 2 pound loaf:
1 3/8 cups water
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon butter or margarine
1 3/4 teaspoons salt
4 cups bread flour
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon dry milk
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 (0.25-ounce) packet active dry yeast, or 2 1/4 teaspoons
Cooking Directions:
- Place ingredients in the bread machine pan in the order suggested by the manufacturer. (Usually wet ingredients first, then dry and lastly the yeast.)
- Select the Basic bread cycle and start machine.
Makes 1 (1 1/2 or 2 pound) loaf.
