
This is a perfect candidate for a chocolate-lover's
birthday cake; simply frost and voilà! A moist and rich
chocolate masterpiece.
Fudge Cake
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose
flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup water
1 3/4 cups granulated sugar, divided use
2 (1-ounce) squares NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Unsweetened
Chocolate Baking Bars, broken into pieces
2/3 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 large eggs
3/4 cup milk
- Combine flour, baking
soda and salt in a small bowl.
- Combine water, 1/2 cup
sugar and baking bars in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat,
stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted and smooth. Remove
from heat.
- Beat remaining sugar,
butter and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl until creamy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat
in chocolate mixture. Gradually add flour mixture alternately
with milk. Pour into two greased and floured 9-inch round baking
pans.
- Bake in preheated 350°F
oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center
comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes. Invert onto wire
racks to cool completely.
