Bavarian Apple Torte

Crust:
3/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Filling:
2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping:
3 cups thinly sliced, peeled, tart apples
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  1. Combine ingredients for crust and press onto the bottom of an ungreased 9-inch springform pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar; add eggs and vanilla, mixing well. Pour over the crust.
  3. Combine topping ingredients and spoon over filling. Place pan on a foil-lined baking sheet to prevent drips.
  4. Bake at 350*F (175*C) for 55 to 60 minutes or until the center is set and apples are tender. Cool completely on a wire rack before releasing sides of pan.
  5. Store in the refrigerator.

Makes 12 servings.
