Honey-Apple Tart

3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
1/8 cup water
4 apples, sliced
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup honey
3 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup butter, melted
  1. In a medium bowl, blend together 3/4 cup flour, 1/4 cup whole wheat flour, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cut in 1/3 cup shortening until the pieces are the size of peas. Sprinkle with 1/8 cup water and gently mix with a fork.
  2. Roll out on a floured surface then place in 9-inch pie pan.
  3. Peel 4 apples and slice thinly; arrange in a circle around the pie pan. Sprinkle with 3/4 cup chopped walnuts.
  4. In a medium bowl, beat 1 cup honey, 3 eggs, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1/4 cup melted butter until well blended. Pour over the apples. Bake in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until done.

Makes 8 servings.
