Traditional Spaghetti Sauce
Mildly seasoned pasta sauce using canned tomatoes and tomato paste. Fresh parsley and a hint of vinegar give it a 'fresh' taste. The sweetener eliminates any acid flavor.
Recipe Ingredients:
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup chopped onions
1 cup chopped fresh mushrooms
1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh garlic
1 (28-ounce) can whole tomatoes, undrained, chopped
1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
1/2 cup dry red wine
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon Equal® Spoonful*
Cooking Directions:
- Heat oil in medium size saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir onions 2 minutes. Add mushrooms and garlic; cook and stir 2 additional minutes.
- Stir in remaining ingredients, except Equal®. Heat to simmer, stirring frequently. Simmer, uncovered, 25 to 30 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally. Stir in Equal® until dissolved. Serve over hot cooked spaghetti, penne, bow tie or your favorite pasta.
Makes 6 servings.
*May substitute 1 1/2 packets Equal sweetener.
