Lemon juice and hot pepper sauce are the key ingredients in any cocktail sauce. This one, so simple yet classic, is also dressed with a sprinkling of fresh cilantro.

Cocktail Sauce Picante

1 cup tomato ketchup
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
1 teaspoon chopped fresh cilantro
  1. In a small bowl, mix together ketchup, lemon juice and hot pepper sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve, topped with cilantro if desired, as an accompaniment to cold boiled shrimp. The sauce will keep for 1 week refrigerated.

Makes 1 cup.
