Minty Barbecue Sauce

3 cups finely chopped onions
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon minced garlic clove
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 cup white wine
1/2 teaspoon dried mint
3 tablespoons white distilled vinegar
1 tablespoon smoke flavoring
1 1/2 teaspoons liquid hot pepper sauce
2 cups tomato ketchup
  1. In a heavy kettle add finely chopped onions, honey, minced garlic clove, lemon juice, chopped green bell pepper, salt, chopped parsley, Worcestershire sauce, white wine, dried mint, vinegar, smoke flavoring, liquid hot pepper sauce, and ketchup. Cook, covered, on low heat for several hours.

Makes about 6 cups.
