The richness of molasses and black coffee impart a depth of flavor to these beans that will have your guests begging for more. Try these with your next barbecued meal or serve alongside hotdogs or hamburgers and coleslaw.

Dark and Rich Baked Beans

1 onion, chopped
2 to 3 slices bacon. diced
2 (16-ounce) cans baked beans
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup black coffee
1/2 cup boiling water
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Place onion and bacon in 2-quart ovenproof casserole.
  3. Combine beans and mustard. Add salt and black ground pepper to taste; transfer to casserole.
    Add molasses, coffee and boiling water together and pour over beans.
  4. Bake uncovered for 60 to 70 minutes, or until hot and bubbly. Stir and serve.

Makes 8 servings.
