Blondies 1

BlondiesThese scrumptious brown sugar bars are enhanced with yummy semisweet chocolate chips in every bite.

Recipe Ingredients:

1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup butter-flavored or plain vegetable shortening
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips*
1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Cooking Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9x2-inch baking pan**; set aside.
  2. Place all ingredients as listed, except for the chocolate chips and nuts (if using), in a mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer at low speed just until ingredients are combined and then beat at medium speed for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, or until smooth and well mixed. Spread batter into prepared pan.
  3. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and nuts, if using, over the top, distributing evenly.
  4. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Makes 16 blondies.

*You can use any flavored chips, be creative and use a combination of flavors using milk chocolate, white chocolate, butterscotch and/or peanut butter chips chips.

**If using a dark baking pan or glass baking dish, reduce oven temperature to 325°F (160°C).
