Olga's Hot Chocolate Oatmeal Drink
Grain drinks of all types are popular throughout Latin America. Inspired by Olga from Virginia, this unique recipe for hot chocolate uses oats and is creamy and delicious with a hint of cinnamon, the perfect way to warm up on a chilly autumn or winter day.
Recipe Ingredients:
3 cups water
1 cup quick oats
2 (12-ounce) cans NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 cinnamon sticks
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
3/4 cup NESTLÉ NESQUIK Chocolate Flavor Powder
Cooking Directions:
- Place water and oats in blender container; cover. Blend for 30 seconds. Strain mixture through fine mesh strainer into medium saucepan. Discard solids.
- Add evaporated milk, sugar, cinnamon sticks and nutmeg to saucepan. Cook on medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture lightly coats the back of a spoon (about 25 to 30 minutes). Remove from heat and remove cinnamon sticks.
- Stir in Nesquik with wire whisk until well blended. If necessary, additional warmed evaporated milk or water can be added for a thinner consistency.
- Serve hot.
