Apple Pudding
"I had been looking over my mom's and her mom's recipes and found this. It sure brought back memories." Recipe submitted by Julee.
Recipe Ingredients:
Apple Pudding:
1 cup vegetable shortening
2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
8 medium apples, peeled, and grated
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup chopped nuts
Sauce:
1/2 cup butter
2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
2 cups water
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Nutmeg for sprinkling
Cooking Directions:
- For Pudding: Cream together the shortening and sugar; add remaining ingredients and blend well. Pour into a greased 9x9x2-inch square baking pan.
- Bake in preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes. Serve warm with sauce.
- For Sauce: Melt butter and blend flour, sugar and add boiling water. Cook until thick, add vanilla and sprinkle with nutmeg.
Makes 8 servings.
