This version of 'Sloppy Joes', uses crushed cornflakes as an extender for the saucy sandwich filling.
1 pound ground beef
Salt and ground black pepper to taste
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 (14.5-ounce) can whole tomatoes, undrained, crushed
1 cup crushed cornflakes
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
8 hamburger bun, split and toasted
- In a 12-inch skillet over medium heat brown ground beef seasoned to taste with salt and pepper. Drain excess grease.
- Stir in chopped onion, pepper, tomatoes, crushed cornflakes, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, paprika, salt and pepper. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer about 15 minutes.
- Serve on toasted hamburger buns.
Makes 8 servings.
