Deep Dish Apple Raisin Pie
This comforting deep dish pie is loaded with sweet apples and raisins lightly scented with orange juice, cinnamon and nutmeg. Wonderful served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Recipe Ingredients:
2 1/2 pounds (6 to 7) Golden Delicious apples, peeled and thinly sliced
1/2 cup raisins
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Pinch ground cloves
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
Pastry for one-crust (9-inch) pie
Cooking Directions:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
- In large bowl combine apples, raisins, sugar, flour, orange juice and peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cloves. Mound mixture in 2-inch deep 9-inch baking dish. Dot with butter.
- Cover apple filling with pastry; seal and flute edges. Cut several vents in top crust to vent steam.
- Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until crust is golden and apples are tender. Cool at least 30 minutes before serving.
