Deep Dish Apple Raisin Pie

No recipe image available.This comforting deep dish pie is loaded with sweet apples and raisins lightly scented with orange juice, cinnamon and nutmeg. Wonderful served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Recipe Ingredients:

2 1/2 pounds (6 to 7) Golden Delicious apples, peeled and thinly sliced
1/2 cup raisins
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Pinch ground cloves
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
Pastry for one-crust (9-inch) pie

Cooking Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
  2. In large bowl combine apples, raisins, sugar, flour, orange juice and peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cloves. Mound mixture in 2-inch deep 9-inch baking dish. Dot with butter.
  3. Cover apple filling with pastry; seal and flute edges. Cut several vents in top crust to vent steam.
  4. Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until crust is golden and apples are tender. Cool at least 30 minutes before serving.

Makes 8 servings.
