German-Style Ham Sandwich
This recipe takes the ham and cheese sandwich to a whole new level.
6 slices (6 ounces) Westphalian or Black Forest ham, thinly sliced
1/4 cup apple butter*
1 tablespoon stone-ground mustard
2 Kaiser rolls, split
4 ounces sliced Emmental or other Swiss cheese
1 small cucumber, very thinly sliced
Bibb or Boston lettuce leaves
- In a small bowl, stir together apple butter and mustard. Spread apple butter mixture on cut surfaces of Kaiser rolls. Fill Kaiser rolls with ham, Emmental cheese, cucumber slices, and lettuce leaves.
Makes 2 servings.
*May substitute with mango chutney.
