Recipe courtesy of The Beef Checkoff.
Recipe Ingredients:
1 1/2 pounds 95% lean ground beef
1/3 cup Sutter Home® Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon or other dry red wine
4 King's Hawaiian® Sweet sandwich rolls, split
4 slices Real California Cheese (such as white cheddar, Monterey Jack or Havarti)
1/4 cup Tabasco Brand® Chipotle Pepper Sauce
8 to 10 NatureSweet® cherry tomatoes, sliced
4 romaine lettuce leaves
Thinly sliced red onion rings
Cooking Directions:
- Combine ground beef and wine in large bowl, mixing lightly but thoroughly. Lightly shape into four 1/2-inch thick patties.
- Place patties in center of grid over medium, ash-covered coals. Grill patties, covered, about 12 to 14 minutes (over medium heat on preheated gas grill, covered, about 13 to 16 minutes) until instant-read thermometer inserted horizontally into center registers 160°F (71.1°C), turning occasionally.
- About 2 minutes before burgers are done, place rolls, cut sides down, on grid. Grill until lightly toasted. During last minute of grilling, top each burger with cheese.
- Place 1 burger on bottom of each roll. Top evenly with pepper sauce, tomato slices, lettuce leaves and onion rings, as desired. Close sandwiches.
Makes 4 servings.
