Open Face Santa Fe Sandwiches

No recipe image available.These warm open faced sandwiches are sure to be a hit with their tangy meat filling and rich and gooey melted cheese topping. Serve with chili-flavored corn chips and fresh vegetables for a meal that will definitely hit the spot.

Recipe Ingredients:

8 ounces bulk Italian sausage, cooked and drained
8 ounces ground beef, cooked and drained
1 (4-ounce) can ORTEGA Diced Green Chiles
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup tomato ketchup
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
6 buns, split and toasted
12 thick slices Monterey Jack cheese

Cooking Directions:

  1. Cook sausage and beef in large skillet; drain. Add chiles, water, ketchup, chili powder, sugar and cumin. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cook for 10 minutes. Cool slightly.
  2. Preheat broiler.
  3. Spoon warm meat mixture onto 12 halves of buns. Top with cheese. Broil for 3 to 5 minutes or until cheese is melted and lightly browned.
