Dark and Rich Baked Beans
The richness of molasses and black coffee impart a depth of flavor to these beans that will have your guests begging for more. Try these with your next barbecued meal or serve alongside hotdogs or hamburgers and coleslaw.
1 onion, chopped
2 to 3 slices bacon. diced
2 (16-ounce) cans baked beans
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup black coffee
1/2 cup boiling water
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place onion and bacon in 2-quart ovenproof casserole.
- Combine beans and mustard. Add salt and black ground pepper to taste; transfer to casserole.
Add molasses, coffee and boiling water together and pour over beans.
- Bake uncovered for 60 to 70 minutes, or until hot and bubbly. Stir and serve.
Makes 8 servings.
