Turkey in a Bag
There's no easier way to prepare a whole turkey than in a oven roasting bag. The bird will be browned and moist when done, and the juice that accumulates in the bottom of the bag makes delicious gravy.
Recipe Ingredients:
1 (12-pound) whole turkey
Salt and ground black pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
5 stalks celery
2 large onions, quartered
Cooking Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove giblets and neck, rinse inside and out and dry thoroughly. Salt and ground black pepper, to taste.
- Sprinkle the bottom of a turkey size oven bag with flour. Make a "bed" of the celery and onions in the bag and place turkey on top. Seal bag and make several slits in the top to vent.
- Bake 3 to 3 1/2 hours, or until internal temperature of the thigh meat reaches 180°F (85°C). The legs will wiggle loosely when done.
Makes 12 servings.
